DU LLB Entrance Exam Analysis - English section
There are a few questions from reading comprehension. The level of the questions is tough and I suggest you read the editorial of a good English newspaper everyday for good practice. I recommend The Hindu. This will not only improve your grasp of the language but also prepare you for quickly reading the passage which in turn is better for you to solve more questions in less time.
Look up every word you don't know the meaning of and find its synonyms and antonyms. This covers all questions which are word-meaning based.
Then comes grammar. The few questions on grammar will be based on filling the blank with the right form of the verb. For grammar I suggest you read the chapter on verbs from Wren and Martin. Also, you might get questions where you have to choose the sentence which is grammatically correct and for that you will also need to read the chapter on punctuation from Wren and Martin.
Then there may be a few questions on idioms and phrases. Read up a 100 idioms from a good book for idioms. Then there are some questions on words that belong to the same group. For example the words given have a connection. Find that connection and that same connection should exist between the words which will be the correct answer. For example the question is to find the words which have the same connection that exists between the words club : golf. Now we know that a club is used to play golf so between the following options the correct answer is racket: tennis
· candid: disingenuous
· racket: tennis
· pliant: rigid
· crass: refined
Some general Tips
My first tip to all students is that you treat English as your first language. Speak English with everyone and look up doubts as they arise. Do not hesitate because it is never too late to learn.
Listen to English music and watch English shows even if you have to turn on the subtitles.
Read English books and magazines and sit with a English to Hindi dictionary if you have to.
The simplest way is to sit with a dictionary and learn many words along with their synonyms and antonyms and also spellings.
I assure you that if you do the above then you will not only clear the exam but ace it too.
Thanks
